THE THIRD DIMENSION 3D ARCHES,HILLS AND POSTS. If you load up the Multi-M.kit datafile (created in kit 1 but it will load into kit 2) you will see an example of an area that uses object colouring in a certain way to give cylindrical post effects, arches and hills. The datafile is very loosely based on an actual place. Posts/Cylinders --------------- Creating cylindrical lamp posts, towers, vats, signs etc is easy to achieve. The secret lies in the colouring of the objects. The easist way to create a cylindrical looking lamp post is to use just one long vertical thin cube and to colour all the sides of it the same colour. This looks even more effective if you use two long thin pyramids placed back to back and then colour all the sides the same colour. If you want to create wider cylindrical looking objects such as gas towers, vats etc then use more pyramids to get the rounded perimeter effect and all coloured the same. The easist way to create a gas tower is to first use a large cube object as its main body and then to place a pyramid on each of its 4 sides all coloured the same on each facet and there you have one green gas tower. Hills and tapered walks ----------------------- Hills that you can walk up are easy to make.Create them by using pyramids placed on top of each other so that you can walk up the "Bounding Box" side (tapered section) of each one. |\ ÿÿ|\ Side view of pyramids. ÿ|\ ÿÿ Arches ------ The Arch effect in the area is again created mostly with pyramids.Simply create a tunnel using two side cubes and a roof cube.Next add a pyramid in the corner of each inside roof section length and a further two thinner pyramids underneath (look at the example).Again the arch effect is mainly done with object colouring.Colour all the inside sections of the tunnel the same dark grey colour.Colour the outside tunnel mouth faces a lighter colour (all the same colour). This will then give the desired effect.
